Writing a Business Letter
Students in middle and high school, should learn how to write a business letter. Whether writing to a company to offer praise for a product or addressing the school Principal about a concern, using a more formal business-letter format adds credibility to the sender’s request, position, or opinion. The point of practicing Business letter form is to help students articulate a concern or request information politely. The person(s) being written to can be a member of any political, social, or commercial group.
Choose one of the following as the "audience" for your business letter.
1. Write a college admissions office for information about their college
2. Write a letter to a company about a product you bought that was defective.
3. Write a letter to a company thanking them for a product you really like.
4. Write a letter to a local business, asking for information about how to gain employment at that business.
5. Write your congressman, expressing a concern about any policy that you have an opinion about.
